What is a linear precipitation zone? Preparation and measures for heavy rain [Flood Prevention Guide No. 12]

The forecast for linear precipitation bands begins! Check now for preparations and measures against heavy rain.

This email newsletter provides information on flood-related products, countermeasures, and industry trends for those considering flood prevention measures. The Japan Meteorological Agency started "linear precipitation zone forecasting" on June 1, 2022. Linear precipitation zones are formed by successive development of cumulonimbus clouds, bringing intense rainfall to the same area for several hours. These zones are highly correlated with disasters, and caution is needed for prolonged heavy rainfall. Advance forecasts are issued as "weather information" 6 to 12 hours in advance. At the time of the announcement, the situation is at "warning level 4 or higher," but by communicating the possibility half a day in advance, the aim is to facilitate preparations and daytime evacuation actions. It is important to enhance disaster prevention awareness and confirm preparations for heavy rain disasters. In this issue, we introduce a checklist for preparations against heavy rain and examples of flood prevention measures.

Interview with Okudake Waterproof Board Users [Flood Prevention Guide No. 14]

It has become easy to implement water immersion measures, and I truly feel lighter at heart. Interview: Ito Seikan Kogyo Co., Ltd.

There have been voices saying that what used to be a flood occurring once every ten years or so has now become an annual problem. The building featured in this case study is located in such a region. We interviewed our customer about the reasons for introducing our "Okudake" and its effects. ... "The flooding is about 10 cm, but we experience damage two to three times a year. We were using sandbags to cope, but setting them up each time was difficult, and the bad smell after use was a significant problem. So, when we renovated the tenant space in 2017, we consulted with the renovation contractor about flood prevention measures, and they recommended 'Okudake,' which led to its introduction." "On July 9, 2022, after installing 'Okudake,' a flooding disaster finally occurred in the surrounding area of the building." ... *The continuation can be viewed through the related link.*
